The Willson Family’s Century-Long Pecan Story

Harry & Jane Willson at the Farm in 1960

The Willson family's deep-rooted connection to pecans stretches back nearly 100 years. It all began in 1926, when Mr. Will Willson purchased a pecan grove in Pecan City, Georgia, sowing the seeds for what would become Sunnyland Farms. Although Mr. Willson himself did not work the land, his vision laid the foundation for a farming legacy that thrives to this day.

Fast forward to the next generation: Harry Willson, eldest son of Mr. Willson, transitioned from his career as a business consultant in Atlanta to embrace the world of pecan farming. A pivotal moment came when Harry and his wife Jane agreed to sell pecans as part of the Atlanta Wellesley Club’s scholarship fundraiser. What started as a small gesture quickly blossomed into the inception of Sunnyland Farms.

As demand for premium Georgia pecans grew, Harry and Jane relocated to Albany, Georgia, fully immersing themselves in farming and establishing a thriving mail-order pecan business. Committed to their mantra, “Only the Best,” Sunnyland Farms became synonymous with high-quality pecans.

The tradition continued with their second son, Larry Willson, who joined Sunnyland Farms in 1978. Larry has brought decades of dedication to pecan farming, ensuring that Sunnyland maintains its reputation for excellence. Alongside him, his wife Beverly managed human resources and wholesale accounts, playing a critical role in the company’s expansion during the 1980s.

Today, Sunnyland Farms flourishes under the leadership of Larry's son Alex Willson, representing the fourth generation of the Willson legacy. Alex serves as CEO, bringing modern business insights gained from his time in Nashville to grow the company while upholding its heritage of quality. His wife, Staci, is Sunnyland Farms' Creative Director, infusing her creative vision into the brand both in the kitchen and through her work behind the camera.

Alex and Staci exchanged the fast-paced world of Corporate America for the rewards of the family farm in Albany, Georgia. Beyond the fulfillment of better work-life balance, their roles have allowed them to foster a tight-knit community, support local initiatives, and carry forward the proud Willson family legacy.

Sunnyland Farms is more than a farm—it's a family legacy. Each generation has added its unique touch, ensuring that their Georgia pecans continue to delight customers nationwide who value quality, tradition, and innovation.
